To be fair, two or three of the small bags are ours and the big box of diapers is a gift for the friends we’re going to see. But still. Babies require a lot of stuff.

Been there done that, so glad I don’t have to pack a swing anymore. The hammock or pack and play takes up so much less space.

You’re gonna need a CX-9 in a couple years...

My dad has always been a minimalist when it comes to “stuff” (makes trying to get a gift for him VERY difficult because he never “wants” anything), while my mom has always been the type to think, “well, we HAVE to take THIS with us, because what if we need it? What if they don’t have that where we’re going? What if there’s an emergency?”

“This” included basic things like a loaf of bread, toilet paper, milk, etc. Because, you know, we might travel to that one rare American city that doesn’t have a single grocery store or gas station, heh.

Taking all that into consideration, and seeing your car so packed the way ours used to be, it’s no wonder why my dad was never a fan of road trips. Heh.

Truth. We HAD to have the stroller, his pack and play (for him to sleep in) and his rocker seat (for the daytime pre-nap fussiness). So there’s the whole cargo area.

That’s why I bought a 7 passenger 2014 pathfinder while my wife was pregnant of our 3rd. The oldest was 6, my daughter was 1. Just going to eat supper at my parents meant almost filing the pathfinder.

Our daughters are now 5,9 and 11. We are looking to buy a larger vehicle than what my wife currently drives because packing the car for trips lasting more than one night gets almost impossible.

She drives a damn Expedition.

We had a rocket box when the kids were little- now they are 3 and 5 and travel much lighter!

It gets a lot easier once he goes from baby to toddler.

Oh, sure we do. Way back in 2001 I went on a road trip to Vancouver with an old high school buddy of mine in a rented Volvo wagon (I worked for a rental agency at the time), and with just the two of us we still managed to cram a V70 completely full of stuff.

The day I stopped hauling around a double stroller I felt like I had won the lottery. Try traveling with twins...

I had two little ones and only a Subaru Impreza wagon. We got a Thule cargo box for overnight trips. Never brought a swing or pack and play, just put the kid in the dirt and let them roam in the loam. It was tight but it worked.

Hahaha so true. “Cubic inches” takes on new meaning with infants and toddlers

We had four boys, two of them under age 2, and totally filled our Suburban on trips...it wasn’t even funny

When people (who usually don’t have kids) say “you don’t need an SUV” I’m like, “Bruh, do you even go on vacation?”

For us, it’s 2.5 hour trips to Austin and an occasional trip to Galveston. 2-3 days worth of clothing for three little girls + two adults will take up damn near the entire rear of a full sized SUV.

If we go to Austin (grandparents’ house), we have to expect that we’re coming home with more than we left with.

I remember packing the Protégé 5 up for a trip to anywhere with our first one. No room for anything, after we had EVERYTHING IN THE CAR FROM HIS ROOM....

I also remember grabbing the diaper bag and a baggie of cherrios and leaving for the day by the third one.
